![]() The perfect Blend of Gym and Fitness In many ways, water provides the perfect environment for exercise. The unique properties of water help to improve blood flow, which lowers blood pressure and heart rate. Your body is buoyant in the water, virtually eliminating the effects of gravity. In water up to your neck, water supports as much as 90% of your body weight, lowering impact on the spine and other weight bearing joints, increasing flexibility, and allowing a greater range of motion. In addition, water is far denser than air. Depending on the speed of movement, resistance in water exercise can equal as much as two hours of land-based exercise in the number of calories expended. Exercise in water is also cooler and more comfortable than on land. A cooling effect occurs when you exercise in the water because body heat is more efficiently disbursed, lowering the chance of over heating.
